Worldwide Photo Walk 2011

In just one week we’ll be at it again and having a blast. Scott Kelby’s Annual Worldwide Photo Walk is a great way to get out with others of all levels who share a passion for photography.

The walk I’m leading is all filled up at the moment but there is a waiting list.  Visit the Photo Walk site and do a search for a walk in your area.  There’s no better way to spend a few hours than to take part in one of these walks.

Decision ~ Paulo Mugarura

You know those times when you go to start a simple, small task and it snowballs into something a little larger that you never really imagined?  That’s where I find myself now with my most recent posts.  It all started innocently enough with a post of some work I’d done awhile back.  Then before I knew it I was elbow deep in my digital archives finding all manner of images that I wanted to share.  So, let’s get to it!

Paulo, as he’s known to most of his friends, is one of those people that make you feel at ease moments after meeting them.  His unassuming manner draws you in as his intense yet gracefully passion for people goes beyond engaging your mind and begins to enlist your heart.  He’s a great guy and I wish you all could meet him.  Hmm…maybe you can (more on that later).

Paulo came to me with his music project a new CD that he was putting out.  He was looking for some creative imagery that could be used for the CD’s artwork.  This type of project is always fun and I love sinking my teeth into these sessions with other creatives.  We got to work here in the studio and in short order Paulo’s personality, passion and exuberance were coming through in each capture.  He shared bit’s of his story that gave me a richer understanding of him and his work.  He sang, he danced, he conquered the session.  I think you’ll agree it was a great success.

Remember I mentioned meeting Paulo?  Well you can.  He’s a worship leader at Woodvale Church here in Ottawa.  He’s a fantastic, energetic musician you’re sure to enjoy.  You can catch him most Sunday mornings leading the band and congregation at Woodvale.  You can also find Paulo at his website www.paulomugarura.com, on Twitter, On Facebook and in a Zumba class near you.  Paulo’s new CD “Decision” is available on iTunes

Give us a SHOUT OUT in the comments section on our blog and let us know what you think.

Open Sky ~ “Until the Sun Comes Out Again”

Open Sky rocked another photo shoot with us here at Dale Hogan Photography.  This time we were on location here in Ottawa’s West end.  It was a very early start but everything went according to plan and the band showed up with their game faces on ready to work.  I have to say I was impressed by the positive attitudes and active sense of humour these guys brought to the table before the sun was even up.  Way to go guys!  You’re always a blast to work with.

Before we jump to the photos I’ve got to tell you that this shoot was for the bands brand new full length CD.  They are having a CD release party on June 30, 2011 @ 7:00 pm  You don’t want to miss this show.  Details and info on how to get tickets is available on their Facebook event page.  You can also swing by and check out their website at www.openskyband.com Have a look at the images below and let me know what you think in the comments.  Then surf on over to the event page and let them know you’re attending.  You can get tickets at Domenic’s Music on Hazeldean Road, in Kanata.

OK, no Open Sky Shoot can really truly be called complete without a few out takes.  These guys are so much fun.  You’ve really got to go hear them on the 30th.  Enjoy!

SideWinder

If you’ve been in the Ottawa Valley for awhile you might of heard of these guys!  They’ve been around and can be found at a pub near you from here to the ‘Frew.  They’ve got tons of riffs, style and experience to make any event a success.  Take a few minutes and check them out at www.sidewinderband.ca You’ll be impressed with their song lineup and samples.

Our shoot had lots of laughs and carrying on (OK, it was mostly me).  This is a bunch of great guys that were a total pleasure to work with.  If you’ve got an upcoming event that needs some shuffle or groove launch a Sidewinder at it.

Remembrance Day 2010 Stittsville Ontario

Today, I had the honour of attending my local Remembrance Day ceremony here in Stittsville.  Each year Dale Hogan Photography takes pause, to in some small way remember.  Remember the sacrifice, remember the bravery, remember the fallen.

This year, as our way of saying, “Lest we Forget”, we are freely offering the images captured at today’s commemorative service held in Stittsville.   Simply follow this link to our 2010 Remembrance Day Gallery for your free downloadable images.

My sincere thanks to all who have and continue to serve our great nation!
